DC Employment Justice Center Honors Michael Paarlberg

October 7, 2010

On September 28, the DC Employment Justice Center held its annual Labor Day dinner at the Capitol Hilton Hotel.  The evening began with a special message from Lilly Ledbetter about her struggle to vindicate her rights to equal pay and the important role of workers’ rights organizations such as the EJC in that fight.  This address was followed by the presentation of awards.  Among the honorees was Michael Paarlberg, a graduate student at Georgetown and a researcher at the Kalmanovitz Initiative, who earned a Decade of Service Award for volunteering his time at the EJC’s weekly clinics.  The keynote speaker was Harold Meyerson, Editor at Large of The American Prospect. Mr. Meyerson spoke of the difficult economic and political moment we are in, and   expressed hope that the One Nation march would rally the progressive movement’s diverse constituents for the upcoming midterm elections.  Mr. Meyerson’s column in The Washington Post the next day touched on many of the same themes.
